Second Birthday Celebrations #2 - May 11 - Caspar and Jack's party

"Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall..."

Lighting the candles

Cutting the cake - the anticipation mounts

Two lttle Hawks party hard...

"What do you think of the cake, Jack?"

"Careful. I think your dad's trying to nick some."

Jack's had enough. Caspar's eating for two.

"I think I'm OK to drive..."

Second Birthday Celebrations #1 May 8

"I'm 2 today!"
"Cake? Seriously? I'm allowed to eat cake?"
"Fire! Over to you, Mummy!"
"A bag of presents!"
"A talking school bus!"

A quiet moment with Arpa

"Ah. An excellent babychino"
"And beautiful home-made muffins"
"No more photos please! I've got to catch up with my reading. Come back on Friday for my party"

Who Brung Her?

The weather was cold, sleety and miserable on Easter Monday and I was glad to take refuge in Peter and Andrea’s corporate box.

I doubt they’re equally glad they invited me.

Before long a child was enquiring about the identity of ‘the lady making all the noise’ Later, in an exuberant celebration of a goal, I tipped coffee all over my host’s brother-in-law. And when the final siren sounded my gesture of despair ended in an elbow to my hostess’s nose.

We play Geelong again on 19th August and it’s a night game. A corporate box is a very nice place to be even when you’re being gloated at. Four months should be enough time to brush up on my manners. And maybe that night I can be magnanimous in victory. But I think a mega-gloat would be excusable really.

Colleen and Ross's 60th

Swinging Sixties
Colleen and Ross celebrated their 60th birthdays with a swinging sixties party.

Ross was born on 29 February so it was actually only his 15th birthday.

I wore Hils's gorgeous sixties-inspired dress and Jim channelled Leonard Cohen. Another guest told me she had a dress just like mine for her engagement party in 1966.

Caspie’s Easter egg

At Montessori playgroup this week Caspie created the first craft project of his life. He artfully arranged the pompoms on the egg and glued them on himself.

Casp's egg was clearly the best in terms of artistic merit and technical skill. Of course.

The Powers That Be have banned chocolate so this is the closest he will get to an Easter egg this year. But what a magnificent beginning to his creative life.

Schnuppertag
Although it's still months before Mads starts school she has already had her orientation day. This is known in Germany as Schnuppertag (sniffing about day). Mere tells us Mads ran all the way there and didn't want to leave at the end. She chose a seat right under the teacher's nose rather than sit with kids she knew. Another girlyswot like her mother but, alas, unlike her grandmother.
